Hypnotherapy for stopping smoking.

Making the decision to stop smoking can happen for many different reasons. There may be a medical reason, where a medical professional has advised it would be in your best interest to stop. There may be a personal reason, such as a loved one has become ill and you’ve had a rethink about your health and wellbeing. Children can be a big factor in making the decision to quit, there may be a child on the way or your children may be asking you to stop for them! Or you may just have become fed up with smelling of smoke, tasting nicotine and wanting to have some. extra cash in your pocket - rather than watching your hard-earned money going up in smoke!

Whatever the reason is for choosing to stop smoking when coming for Hypnotherapy, the most important factor to remember is the decision must be yours and yours alone. As I tell all the people who come to me for Hypnotherapy, I do not have a magic pill for you to take or a magic wand to wave. Hypnotherapy is highly effective however for those willing to commit to the process fully, in and out of the sessions. As part of the Smoking Cessation Package, you will be provided with tips and advice to support you each step of the way. Handouts and information explaining exactly what is happening to your body as you stop smoking are provided and help with cravings, should they occur, are given. However, the positive changes don’t start with the hypnotherapy. From the moment you phone and discuss giving up smoking with me the changes will be starting as behaviour patterns are challenged.

The Hypnotherapy for Smoking Cessation package offered consists of initially speaking to you on the phone to ask a few questions about you, such as how long you've been smoking, how many cigarettes you smoke a day and the reasons you have for wanting to stop. I will also take a few personal details to build up an idea of who you are and what your lifestyle is like. Following this, there is a two-hour session, during which a more in-depth consultation takes place. The Hypnotherapy then happens, sitting safely and comfortably in a chair, listening to and following simple instructions, such as asking you to visualise images and repeat words. You will be in an extremely relaxed trance-like state, however, you will be fully aware of what is happening and in complete control throughout the process. After the two hour session, a further two sessions are provided, if required to focus on specific needs.

The Hypnotherapy experience is different for each individual person. Some people can find it a very emotional experience, possibly due to allowing tensions and emotions to be released. Some people feel no difference initially but gradually realise something has changed over time. This is due to the subconscious being in control of the changes which happen. During Hypnotherapy I am talking to the subconscious and through your subconscious, the changes will occur. That's not to say I won’t be asking you to consciously create some changes too! There will be things I ask you to do after the session to help cement the process through time. Through using hypnotherapy to stop smoking you will be fully supported to make the positive changes you wish to make.

Smoking can cause many health issues which can be reversed, in some cases the sooner you give up smoking. Smoking can cause breathing difficulties, gum disease, heart disease and lung cancer, as well as other cancers. Giving up smoking can help increase energy levels due to the increase of oxygen getting to the brain and the decrease of carbon monoxide levels in the blood. Stopping smoking can also improve the immune system and give you a longer life expectancy. Within nine months of giving up smoking lung capacity will increase by 10% and ‘smoker’s cough’ should have disappeared. There’s also the added bonus of looking younger as skin appearance improves due to the nutrients the skin needs returning. Finally, who wouldn’t like more money being left in your bank account every month - the average cost of a pack of 20 cigarettes is £10:40, therefore smoking 20 cigarettes a day will on average cost £291.20 a month / £3494.40 a year.
